Yeehaw! A Rodeo...
There might not be a better way to spend the first day of Summer than at a rodeo. I'm just speculating here. We were a group of 14 and I was completely in my cowgirl wannabe element.Traditional rodeo events highlighted the 58th annual Russian River Rodeo hosted by the Russian River Rodeo Association (RRRA).It is the mission of the RRRA to promote and conduct horsemanship events and provide scholarship to students who desire to pursue a career in agriculture. Its major fundraising activity is the Russian River Rodeo at the practice facility that it maintains in Duncans Mills (a darling little village circa 1877).
While it felt 'small town' this rodeo offered 'big' fun. We witnessed exhilarating Bull & Bronc riding, Team & Breakaway roping, Steer wrestling, Barrel racing, and so much more. What a hoot!
I'll let the photos tell the story!
This is my favorite 'rodeo' photo of the day. Wild stuff.
I am a huge fan of the craziness of the bucking events. Wow.
"Saddle bronc is the quintessential rodeo sport -
not the chaos of bull riding
or the thrashing of bareback riding.
It might be harder than both."
- John Branc
Yes, this was the best place to kick off Summer. Yeehaw indeed!
“Rodeo as a metaphor for life
and human struggle rather than a sport,
a hope of conquering what could not be conquered.
To ride until being bucked off,
stomped on and gored,
and still get back on every time,
no matter the harm caused.”
