Art at Our Local College

One of the reasons we chose to live in South Lake Tahoe, vs any of the other towns around the lake, was because it is home to Lake Tahoe Community College.

Celebrating 50 years of providing education to all Tahoans, we were there to register for some classes ourselves.
While there, we detoured to the Haldan Art Gallery, a modern, brightly lit exhibition space that provides opportunities for the Art Department students to showcase their talents, and provides visiting artists from the surrounding region with space to share their works and knowledge with the entire community. We have been to the gallery many times and have delighted in all it had to offer. What a Tahoe Treasure.
The current exhibit, now closed, was the LTCC Student Art Show which featured works from current and past art students spanning a variety of creative mediums. One of the classes I signed up for is an art class so who knows, maybe I'll be in next spring's show. Fun thought.
What an incredible and diverse display of true talent. Both Steve and I appreciated Jill Trainer's Egret.
I think I saw Olivia Merrion's work in a gallery in London. How amazing!
Another of Jill's pieces, Tassel, reminded me of Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring. Gorgeous!
Conor Rafferty had several works on display. All demand a further study.

Kelly Fisher's 3-D Farmhouses Near and Far reminded me of the fun dioramas we made as children. I really enjoyed that memory evoked by this piece.

I loved all the ceramics, many of which evoked a feeling of whimsy!

Heidi Munnecke titled this piece, You are My Sunshine. What a cheery ceramic. So dang fun.

It is said that "Art has the power to transform, to illuminate, to educate, inspire and motivate." I would say this exhibit encapsulates that statement. Wow.
