Safari Park Adventures
With a freshly renewed annual membership to the San Diego Zoo and its special partner, the Safari Park, you'll be seeing more animals than you probably wanted to over the year yet the faces with me will be different, so there's that!
Today's foray was for Birthday Month Day #8 with Lori.We began with lunch at the always delightful, and fantastically scenic, Watering Hole Restaurant.
I brought the perfect dessert.
There isn't much needed to be said about the photos. It was a glorious day. The animals were as adorable as usual. Flowers were in bloom. Fun was had.
I will say that our tram driver shared a great deal about Turkey Vultures. Their importance in the ecosystem will make me look at them, circling overhead, differently!
This was the newest giraffe. Elliott, a Masai giraffe, was born on Oct. 7, 2023 to parents parents Mara and Gowan. Interestingly, his name was chosen by actor Aaron Paul's daughter. For those who don't know, Aaron played Jesse Pinkman in the TV show Breaking Bad. Okay, at least I thought it was interesting.
How about the view from the tram? This park encompasses 1,800 acres. Wow.
My favorite collective noun to describe a group of animals has to be a flamboyance of flamingos. Oh man, so gorgeous.
"Some of my old memories feel trapped
in amber in my brain, lucid and burning,
while others are like the wing beat of a hummingbird,
an intangible, ephemeral blur."
- Mira Bartok
Ever feel like this gorilla?
We ended our visit like all birthday celebrations should... on the merry-go-round!
"In the end,
it's not the years in your life that count.
It's the life in your years."
-Abraham Lincoln
