danceXchange @ the Merc

I have to confess, in my head I'm a ballerina. So when I can volunteer for an evening of dance, I'm so there.

"danceXchange is a monthly showcase presented in various settings at the Theater to bring the local dance community together in celebration of our varied and eclectic dance community and all it has to offer."
Tonight's show was performed in the Mercantile Building. Built by Philip Pohlman around 1890 on a lot he won in a raffle, this was said to be the first brick building in Temecula. Eventually, it was acquired by George A. Burnham for his business that closed in 1953. It has since been rebuilt and functions as the box office for the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and an intimate venue for performances. It's a very cool space where both Steve and I agreed we need to return to on a date.

danceXchange engages new and diverse audiences, enriches experiences of current dance supporters, provides opportunities for interchange among the dance community, and brings local business sponsorship to dance programming.
On each third Tuesday of the month, audiences find a unique, and at times, diverse performing experience and all for only $5 a ticket. That is a lot of amazing dance for very little money. We both really enjoyed this experience.

“To dance is to be out of yourself.
Larger, more beautiful, more powerful…
This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.”
-Agnes De Mille
