An Educational Women's Event...

Women Enlightened is a very beneficial program, shared with me by my friend, Suzanne. WE is a free community resource, support and education program. It is intended to encourage women and help them navigate through healthcare issues. Age or insurance is not a factor; you just have to be a girl!

Our presenter was Dr. Michael French who is new to the area and has joined Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Associates. His message wasn't necessarily directed at me (I have awesome knees, currently) but with his focus on computer aligned total knee replacement, cutting edge minimally invasive hip replacement surgery, as well as cartilage preservation techniques, I felt ready and confident if the need should ever arise. I thoroughly enjoyed his enthusiasm and sincerity. I would totally see him, if I needed an orthopedist.

According to Debbie Parker, RN, "The Women Enlightened for Better Health program, at Rancho Springs Medical Center, is a unique opportunity for women to get support and learn about a variety of health issues they may face, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. As the Nurse Navigator of the program, I meet with women to discuss their health concerns, assist with finding resources in the area and help them find a physician when necessary.

Once a month, we have a free educational get together at the hospital that highlights a different health topic. These meetings feature a local physician or expert on a health topic who provides information that can help women make the best health decisions they can make. These meetings are educational, and we have a great time. They include a catered meal and are for women only."
There were 150 attendees here for the 49th WE program. How cool is that?
Debbie was very welcoming to my mother-in-law and me. We both thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon.
Besides being a gathering spot for some pretty neat women, W.E. hosts community education luncheons/dinners, special speakers, and various community outings throughout the year. Members also receive a welcome packet and a free LIV kit. The LIV kit is a breast self-exam aide, created by actress and singer Olivia Newton-John, who helped to kick off this program. She credits breast self-examination as the reason that she found her original cancer over 20 years ago.

This is a pretty awesome happening and I'm so glad we were able to join in all the fun.

"We women should remember that we are
much more than just breasts."
Olivia Newton-John
