Last Full Day in Portugal...A Roman Festival

While we were at the Ag Festival on Monday, I picked up this flyer. What a totally awesome thing to do for our last day in Portugal- A Roman Market Day!

Rio Maior has been inhabited since prehistoric times but their pride, and this festival, stems from the Roman evidence found in their 3rd century villa ruins.
The festivities began with a pageant with dozens of marchers of all ages. What fun. I do love a parade.

We then went to the City Park to be amongst the village people, showcasing their wares and cooking up delicious meals for us commoners.

It was here that I finally tasted Ginja in a chocolate cup. This was the delicious end to our exceptional Portugal adventures. Tomorrow, we fly to Barcelona. The European exploration continues... just like the Romans! Fun stuff.
