Road Trip Through Death Valley...

Taking a different route home, we drove through the oppressively hot Death Valley National Park.

Badwater Basin is an endorheic basin (closed sea), noted as the lowest point in North America, with an elevation of 282 ft below sea level. The site itself consists of a small spring-fed pool of "bad water" next to the road in a sink; the accumulated salts of the surrounding basin make it undrinkable, thus giving it the name. The pool does have animal and plant life, including pickleweed, aquatic insects, and the Badwater snail. It is always an interesting place to visit. And no, the umbrellas did not help much!

This was the perfect end for our desert escape. Steve said, before we left, that he wanted to feel some heat... that goal was met!

Feel the heat indeed! But still so beautiful to see. Not like the feel here when it is 114 we have the humidity which is nasty. But I bet the dry heat feels nice. Must not be able to walk around too long though. Great info and pictures.

As always thanks for taking us along.

Wow. Love it! I want to go to Death Valley! It looks beautiful, and HOT. I love the picture with the colorful umbrellas. Did you get those in Vegas?
