Kiwanis Coats for Kids...

Today, I had the honor of accompanying Jenny as she participated in Coats for Kids. This amazing program involves all three Kiwanis Clubs in South Lake Tahoe, with funding coming from from Optimists, individual citizens, and many grant sources.  It is truly a community activity to care for our kids.

Last year, over 600 coats were distributed to children identified by teachers and day care professionals as needing a winter coat. Often the new coat they receive from the program is among the few new items they've ever received.
Our role was to help the children pick a coat that not only fit but would make them feel special.  Many, on this 72° day, chose to wear their new coats when they left.  What an incredible generosity this community exhibits.  I am continuously in the company of some fantastic people.
How can one not be moved by an organization whose defining statement is, "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time."

I love how even the most shy and quiet kids beam when they get to pick out a jacket. They really do appreciate it.
