Elvis in Tahoe...

On this, Elvis Presley's would be 78th birthday, I felt his presence in Lake Tahoe had to be shared here.  He performed at Del Webb's Sahara (now Horizon) several times from 1971 until his death in 1976.  Many old-timers have their own Elvis stories to tell.

In 1973, Elvis performed in Stateline to sold-out crowds at the Sahara Tahoe casino. During the concerts, Presley and his manager, Col. Tom Parker, donated souvenirs, including photo books, posters and other novelty items, to the Barton Auxiliary, whose members sold the items at a booth in the hotel. Presley also held a special Mother's Day concert at 3 a.m. on May 13, 1973, in memory of his mother, Gladys, and donated his check to Barton Memorial Hospital.
While not a fanatical Elvis fan, I do like him and plan to make it to Graceland this year.  After reading what he did for our local hospital, and the impact he had on the community, economically, you can't live in Tahoe and not appreciate the man.  He was/is The King, after all.
