Off to Play in the Desert...
Wanting to experience the delights of the desert, Day #20 of my birthday month found us in Borrego.
First stop was in the darling town of Borrego Springs. "Welcome to Borrego Springs, a gateway to the stunning Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, home to the world famous Sky Art Metal Sculptures and one of the few designated International Dark Sky Communities in the world. Whether you’re dreaming of star studded evenings or breathtaking mountain and desert views, you’ll find both in this desert oasis." This statement has always been true! We love it here.A mid-morning snack of the most delicious bagels was savored on the patio of Kesling's Kitchen. It was pricey but worth it for the experience it provided. Wow.After fueling up, we sauntered next door to the Borrego Art Institute for its 16th Annual Plein Air Invitational. What talent!
There was something about this painting that we both really liked. All of the submissions were spectacular.
Nature was an artist, too. Wildflowers, while not in a super bloom, were ample and everywhere.Described as one of the last best places on Earth, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park encompasses some of the most diverse desert landscape in the world (covering more than 600,000 acres). Nearly two-thirds of the Park is pristine wilderness, sheltering an astonishing proliferation of plant and animal life, including the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep.
After settling into camp, we ended our first day in Palm Canyon.
Evidence of those who came before us was found on our hike. Steve discovered a grinding stone shifted by a long ago flood. So dang interesting.
“I have always loved the desert.
One sits down on a desert sand dune,
sees nothing, hears nothing.
Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams...”

There is so much to explore in Borrego Springs. It never gets old for dessert visitors. How neat that you got to go to art festival. I love that art institute building. It is so Borrego Springs.
