'Dallying' in the Desert

There are two definitions for dallying. My usage refers to 'acting or moving slowly.'

We began our day back at Palm Canyon searching for the elusive Peninsular Bighorn Sheep.
We did not have any luck with the sheep but we did find an even greater array of wildflowers.

We even eyed some birds.

Most of our day was spent exploring questionable canyons. And while the scenery was pretty amazing, the prospect of being stuck and not having a turnaround spot ended some of the exploration earlier than we had hoped.

We even forded a river in the truck. It was exciting.

Our night's campsite is amongst Ricardo Breceda's creations. I have blogged about this Temecula artist before. My hope is not to wake up in the middle of the night, look out the window, and forget where I am (it has happened many times). So cool yet a tad frightful.
It's great that these guys are our only neighbors for the night. Fun day in the desert.
And I leave you with a little history. There was a great deal of hope for Borrego 70 years ago. "The last great frontier," people called it. "The next Palm Springs." "The desert of plenty." It was the mid-1950s, and Borrego Springs was poised to become California’s next great oasis. While that didn't happen, the history and hope documented in this promotional film is not only interesting, but it is also quite educational. Enjoy this video journey back in time to Borrego's heyday. Fun stuff.

We went to Borrego Springs in February. Metal statues were great. Had seen them posted somewhere so had to go. Glad you had a good time.

The wildflowers are in bloom! Love it! We need to get out there soon. But instead, we are heading to the Sierras. In the rain and snow now!
