Friends, Flowers & Alphorns!

Oh my, what a unique Tahoe day!

When Bob and Jenny told us about their day and invited us along, we were 100% in (even with a 6:15AM departure time).
We began the adventure at Woods Lake.
We embarked on the two mile walk, slowly gazing downward ogling wildflowers while simultaneously looking skyward, hoping for unique bird sightings.

About half way to our destination we entered the Mokelumne Wilderness, first protected in 1964. This scenic place is located between Eldorado and Stanislaus National Forests and boasts some the most unique and interesting geology in the Lake Tahoe Area. The peaks are covered in metamorphic rock, which consists of volcanic rock, sand, and mud. One of the most exceptional peaks in the wilderness is Round Top Peak.

Our destination goal was Winnemucca Lake (8,983'). Breathtaking views abounded!

And what brought us to Woods Lake on this particular day? Bob is a fan of the Alphorn and he learned that the Sierra Alphorn Players would be performing lakeside. What an incredible opportunity for us all.
"The alphorn is a labrophone, consisting of a straight several-foot-long wooden natural horn of conical bore, with a wooden cup-shaped mouthpiece. It is used by mountain dwellers in the Swiss Alps, Austrian Alps, Bavarian Alps in Germany, French Alps, and elsewhere. Similar wooden horns were used for communication in most mountainous regions of Europe. Alphorns are today used as musical instruments." And we came for the music.

This was definitely one of our most unique Sierra experiences. WOW.

After listening closely, Jenny and I hiked around the lake to see how the sound carried. It was equally beautiful. It was a magical day.
Here's a video of the players making the music magic happen at 8,242 feet! What a blast!

It’s better to look back on life and say, “I can’t believe I did that.”
than to look back and say: “I wish I did that."

I was going to say you should have just stayed at Woods Lake. But now I see why you continued! What an interesting, European experience. In Tahoe.

Such a fun day with you! Loved listening to the Alphorns and their music echo back to us.
