Wild Flour Bread...

When heading to Occidental, a must stop is at this unique bakery in the little community of Freestone. A former stone and logging town, Freestone is the entryway to the Bohemian Highway. In 1974, it became the first historic district named by Sonoma County. The downtown comprises a handful of historic buildings with a selection of local businesses, including a cheese shop, winery, bakery and a spa. Freestone has a population of 32.

"Wild Flour Bread features brick oven baked sourdough breads, scones and coffee drinks. Working with a wood fired brick oven we produce beautiful hard crust breads that our customers come from miles around to taste. Founded in 1998, We are located in beautiful Freestone Valley in a village of just 26 houses. The view from the bakery looks out on to fields, barns and often a herd of cows."
This place is one of our favorites. Our picks for today was the Egyptian (fig, pear, and ginger sticky bun) along with the Gouda (aged gouda, onion and herbs).
The COVID precautions were firmly in place. It felt a bit like hopscotch.
While Steve held our place in line, I meandered through the garden.

With opening hours only Friday to Monday, Wild Flour is sometimes difficult to get to but thankfully, we will pass by again when we leave. Hmmm, what will we choose then? 𝅘𝅥𝅮 Anticipation... it's making me wait. 𝅘𝅥𝅮
