Scenes Around Santa Rosa...

I always see something new, while strolling about. This 1910 home is now the offices of National Association of Letter Carriers.

NALC is the sole representative of city letter carriers employed by the United States Postal Service. Since it was founded in 1889, the union has defended the rights of letter carriers while protecting the integrity of the USPS.
Why was NALC created? Free city delivery of mail was established in 1863. In the years that followed, letter carriers found themselves working 10- to 12-hour days, seven days a week. The fight to achieve legal recognition of an 8-hour day, successfully concluded in 1888, clearly demonstrated what could be achieved when letter carriers banded together and reached out beyond their local area. Go Letter Carriers!
If you've read this blog before, you know I'm a huge fan of stamped concrete and its ability to share history. While Mr. Neurauter & Son did not date their work, I did find that in 1900, Joe Neurauter bid to do the stonework for the church of St. Rose. While he didn't get the job, it seems he laid a lot of sidewalks throughout Santa Rosa.
I delighted in this vintage spring bed mattress adorned with the image of this neighbor's best friend.
Nearly every yard housed at least one sunflower... eye candy for me!
Pollinators were out in full force, doing the dance of Springtime.
