Historic San Luis Rey Bakery

Because we love trying new things and because Brady said they had bread pudding, we stopped at San Luis Rey Bakery & Restaurant for morning treats.

Located just up the road from the San Luis Rey Mission, this place is an Oceanside mainstay. Super cool fact: it has been family owned for 52 years (how many businesses can say that?). This historic bakery offers a wide array of tasty items such as breads, rolls, and pastries. It is also well known for its professionally decorated cakes for special events like weddings, Quinceañeras, and birthday parties. Fun stuff!
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here as well and we have promised to return for some very authentic Mexican food.
While they were all out of bread pudding, other treats delighted many of our senses. How gorgeous are these pastries?
I must admit, Steve was not a big fan. What's surprising about Mexican pastries is the fact that they are not as sweet as one (Steve) would hope. No swooning, but still a worthwhile stop on the perfect pastry parade! Parlor Doughnuts is still in the front of the crowd.
"The fine arts are five in number, namely:
painting, sculpture, poetry, music, and architecture,
the principal branch of the latter being pastry."
