Diamond Valley Lake Wildflower Trail

Located in the Santa Margarita Watershed, the land around the lake is home to seasonal wildflowers.

Every spring a diverse variety of colors bloom, including Native California Poppies, Baby Blue Eyes, Canterbury Bells, and Owl’s Clovers, just to name a few. This lake also connects to the Southwestern Riverside County Multi-Species Reserve, which is home to 31 endangered or threatened plant, bird and animal species, such as the Bell’s sage sparrow and the San Diego horned lizard.
This was our first hike on this trail and it has a fee ($11 to park, $4 each to get on the trail). The best things in life aren't always free!

Due to the lack of precipitation, there wasn't a super bloom but awesomeness was found everywhere we looked.

Surprisingly, the Olancha Checkerspot butterfly was the only one visiting the flowers, while we were lakeside. I don't know if I have ever seen one before and I was delighted.
The actual Wildflower Trail is a 2.1 mile, one-way loop with spectacular picnic spots and plenty of space to physically distance.

California Goldfields were plentiful and so cheery.

“No matter how chaotic it is, wildflowers will still spring up
in the middle of nowhere.”
– Sheryl Crow

Tidy Tips... some names are just perfect.
“You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free.”
– Tom Petty

We loved our explore of all this trail had to offer. We will return next spring (or in the fall when the temperatures are crisp). New horizons continue to intrigue!
