A Haircut, A Boat, Rum & History...

The adjective for today was DIVERSE. We began with Larry getting a much needed haircut by Cyndi.

Next was to the Tahoe Keys Marina for a luncheon cruise to Emerald Bay.
"The Emerald Bay Lunch Cruise is a 2.5 hour cruise from South Lake Tahoe, traveling 7 miles across the lake to Emerald Bay. Indoor and Outdoor seating available. 360 degree panoramic views of Lake Tahoe, snow-capped mountains, Fannette Island, Vikingsholm Castle, and Eagle Waterfall. You may see a variety of wildlife from Bald Eagles, Black Bears, Wild Geese and Trout. An Intimate Tahoe Experience."
It couldn't have been a better day to head to the bay!

One of the scenes were several boats, moored together. The many occupants chose to show us their better side. Picture them without the red 'modest bar' I added!
Vikingsholm looked exceptionally inviting today.
Fannette Island is always a highlight.
We delighted in seeing this active osprey nest, too.
"I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand,
as in what direction we are moving
-we must sail sometimes with the wind
and sometimes against it
-but we must sail,
and not drift, nor lie at anchor."
-Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Dinner as lakeside at the Beacon Bar and Grill where we munched on Chipotle Shrimp & Hot Link Nachos (seared hot links and chipotle shrimp, black bean puree and melted white cheddar, served over tortilla chips). This was washed down with the world famous Rum Runner blended libation. Delicious!

After seeing the Pope Estate starring in A Place Called Home we thought it was a good idea to tour around and see where all the action happened.

Our final stop was at Camp Richardson's Historic Lodge for the first of the Lake Tahoe Historical Society's Fall Fireside Chat. Peter Goin, foundation Professor of Art in Photography and Videography at the University of Nevada Reno, presented an amazing slideshow which focused on his extensive re-photography work and techniques in the Lake Tahoe region. He and his team have gathered historical photographs and found where they were taken and then retook them, showing just how much Tahoe has change (and in some instances remained the same). So very, very cool. We all loved this presentation.
When the night was over, we introduced Lee and Margaret to Chuck, since they stayed with us, in his Virginia home, when we farmette sat two years ago. Fun diverse day. Can't wait for tomorrow!
