The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County...

I have always proclaimed that every city holds a treasure. My daughter-in-law and I uncovered this amazing museum- a gem in Santa Rosa. I want to live here!

The Children’s Museum’s mission is to inspire children’s creativity and stimulate their curiosity to discover the world through playful exploration of the arts and sciences.
Within Sonoma County, Santa Rosa is the largest city in California’s North Coast and the 5th most populated city in the San Francisco Bay Area. The closest children’s museum was 55 miles south of Santa Rosa, an impossible and costly trip for families without transportation. The 2nd closest museum was more than 200 miles north. So what happened? Some moms kicked butt and created this incredible space with some incredible support!
The Museum campus includes over 7,000 square feet of existing interior space that is currently being remodeled, coupled with 36,000 square feet of outdoor exhibits. All exhibits are devoted to science, art or nature, with a specific emphasis in the outdoor exhibit garden on environmental sustainability, water conservation and renewable energies. Teddy Bear tea anyone?
I totally loved the life-sized Lite Brite board. Remember those?
The outdoor space was amazing. Tons of hands on activities (including water elements which are perfect for the hot Santa Rosa summers) and this cool rescue helicopter! Where can you climb around in one of those?
I was very attracted to the pollinator garden. Yes, there truly was something for everyone! I loved this place and will be back.
Well, one can't get over the habit of
being a little girl all at once...
