Do you ever drive down a highway/interstate and play the "I see the old road" game? Oh, man, our last road trips really gave me great opportunity to play that game.

As we were heading home, a sign proclaimed, "The Doyle Loop Road" and Steve proclaimed, "Let's take it!" What treasures were found on this brief detour. Settled in the 1870s, with its first post office being opened in 1908, Doyle is a town with history. Supposedly, it hosts the grave of Cowboy Joe Marsters, the last of The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's gang. Cowboy Joe died here in 1978 at the age of 84.
We purchased ice creams from the 103 year-old Winje’s Emporium and Hotel and then went for a stroll.
The last price for gas on this pump was 42¢.


What the town is currently famous for are its Annual Doyle Days Lizard Races.
Located in the picturesque Dixon Park, this is where they wrangle their lizards. Funny thought. If we're ever in these parts in August we are going to have to attend.



Sometimes, the road-less-traveled is the path that has something to share. We certainly found that in the bypassed town of Doyle.
