Wine Themed Day with Karen & David

These are a few of my favorite things...

Besides studying Italian, our friends in Vista have become experts in viticulture.
This past summer, they planted 55 vines with the rewards of their labor due next Fall.
In the meantime, Karen took us to a darling winery in Carlsbad- Witch Creek.
We sampled some delicious wines and were given a tour by the viticulturist- Ryan Scott.  AWESOME, all of it.  The tasting room had a very festive Friday afternoon vibe!
On the outside of Witch Creek is “Catnap” — about 18 feet tall and nearly as wide. It is the incredible work of Oceanside artist, Michael Summers.  He said the design for his mural was inspired by the quote, “Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you may become.”

The tigers in the mural are not quite sure if they want to venture out into the world, Summers said. “Everything you experience changes you a little if you let it,” he said. “It’s a little of that idea.”  I like the concept and the vibrant colors!
The ocean is viewable from the winery.  One of my favorite pastimes is getting my feet into the sea.  Karen was game even though she hadn't done it in the cold California Pacific in decades.
David becomes "Luigi" when he cooks and boy did he cook.  Homemade Pesto- Delizioso!
We shared some Tahoe wine and they shared their own 'class project'.  It was a great night.
A tavola con i buoni amici
e la famiglia
non si invecchia!

Italian to English Translation:
At the table with good friends
and family you do not become old.

That winery looks fun. And I love that picture of Steve in front of the mural! AND I always love the beach!
