Steve & Kegan Camp Desolation Wilderness
While the basin filled with smoke, my boys were out hiking and camping.
Long recognized for its mountain splendor, Desolation Valley Primitive Area was established in 1931. It straddles the crest of the Sierra Nevada range, encompassing 63,690 acres, and has elevations ranging from 6,500 feet to nearly 10,000 feet.
They camped at Lake Aloha (el. 8,120') with its shallow, clear waters. It sits in a wide, granite basin carved by glaciers and provides a rather spectacular view.
This was Steve's first foray into wilderness camping and he seemed to have enjoyed himself. Kegan was practicing for his John Muir Trail hike. I'm just happy to have them both home and out of the smokey environment that is now Tahoe.

Brings back memories!
Those pictures are gorgeous! What a great father/son experience. Does Steve wish he was doing the hike with Kegan?
