Love Day and the Ballet...
What Christmas gift do you give to the people who have all they could possibly need? Tickets to a drag show!
Well, on the surface Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo may appear to be just that but in reality, it is one of the best theatrical performances Steve and I have ever seen. We first fell in love with this talented group of men ballerinas or ballerinos while ushering at Charleston's Spoleto Festival. Founded in 1974 by a group of ballet enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting a playful, entertaining view of traditional, classical ballet in parody form and en travesti, their show should not be missed.
While in Italy, I followed the wonderful Trocks' (as fans call them) schedule and when I discovered they were going to be in Palm Desert, I thought what a great experience to share with Steve's folks. These men possess an inimitable brand of classicism, camp and comedy. Their dance technique is on par with any professional ballet dancer but the fact that they laugh at themselves right along with the audience makes it a most enjoyable theater experience.
Men in tights, lots of laughter and sharing a unique experience with my in-laws...I know this will be an unforgettable Valentine's Day for all of us and I wish the same for you.
