Graffiti Busters...who ya gonna call?
As with everywhere, Italy has graffiti and Spoleto is not immuned to this phenomenon. Different from the 'tagging' that happens in Southern California, the graffiti here is mostly proclamations of love, lyrics from songs, and feeble attempts at art.
When we came here last year, we promised that we would make graffiti removal one of the things we do. We thought we would begin at home. There is a pathway, through our building that is a short cut to the heart of the historic center and obviously a canvas for errant youth with spray cans.
Well this morning, the owner of our building sent over a painting crew who matched our color perfectly and gave us, with some doubt of our abilities, painting lessons. A few hours later, the walls leading to our apartment (and I must admit, myself) were covered in a beautiful, welcoming, golden color. While we noticed the job is not perfect, as it dried, we are encouraged by the beginning of a hopeful trend around town.
