Super Girl Surf Pro Contest...

Oceanside has so much going on!

We were excited for the 18th annual Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro. "This 3-day event is jam-packed with a world-class surfing competition that will blow your mind, and a festival village loaded with female-inspired vendors, activities and amazing entertainment." What makes it extra exciting is the fact that all this fabulousness is free to attend!
Established in 2007 as a showcase for women in action sports, the Super Girl Pro Series is the only large-scale all-women’s action sports, esports and lifestyle series in the world. Developed as a celebration of female strength and empowerment, the platform has grown into a series of four incredible festivals centered around providing social, athletic, cultural, educational, business, and entertainment opportunities for young women in areas where they are traditionally underrepresented. How totally cool!

Watching these women athletes was inspiring.

“Surfing is such an amazing concept.
You’re taking on Nature with a little stick and saying,
‘I’m gonna ride you!’ And a lot of times Nature says,
‘No you’re not!’ and crashes you to the bottom.”
– Jolene Blalock

“I don’t need easy,
I just need possible.”
– Bethany Hamilton
While the waves were not very impressive, these surfers were. What an incredible way to spend the weekend.
All the action wasn't just in the waves. The shoreline hosted great activities as well. Artists, military personnel, product giveaways, health information booths, and live music filled our days with a diverse array of awesome.

Sun Bum offered an unlimited amount of their sunblock products to keep us protected from the warm UV rays. I loved that.
Verizon provided Steve with this photographic homage to the late, great Toby Keith. If you don't know his Red Solo Cup song, you need to watch this video. Oh man!
The generosity of the sponsors was fantastic. Mad Hippie is one of my favorites.
I appreciated the introduction to Essence Cosmetics. Fun, economical, cruelty-free, and 95% made in Europe. What's not to love?
T-shirt reading was pretty entertaining, too.

Live music played continuously throughout the day.
The big surprise came with the Marine Band San Diego. When I saw it on the schedule, I was expecting traditional marches, etc. Nope! These were ROCKERS! It was almost surreal to see them, in uniform, singing ditties like Barracuda by Heart. Wild.

We concluded with the first ever, for the Super Girl Surf Pro, a Female Lifeguard Competition. This event showcased the incredible strength, skill, and dedication of female lifeguards. There were thrilling demonstrations of lifesaving techniques, intense physical challenges, and a celebration of the vital role these remarkable women play in ensuring beach safety. What extraordinary athletes.

Surfer Rosy Hodge said, "I'm grateful to be a part of the surfing lifestyle. I get to do what I love every day. I’m happy with the life that I have and the role surfing plays in it.” I would like to add my own adaptation, "I'm grateful to be given this brief glimpse of the awesome surfing lifestyle showcased this weekend in Oceanside. Wow!" Kudos to all who worked tirelessly to make this event possible. We loved it all!
