Falling in Love with Mexico: 1975
We have friends preparing for their winter migration to Mexico. Their excitement made me remember family trips we made there, decades ago.
When we were growing up, my dad was the manager of the Newport Marina for the Irvine Co. During our early teens, he was offered a job in Bahía Kino, a town in the Mexican state of Sonora, Hermosillo, on the Sea of Cortez. He was curious so we loaded up our Argosy travel trailer and drove the 626 miles south to see what it was all about.

Our family's last RV trip South of the Border was a several weeks long adventure in 1981, driving all the way to Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. Steve and I have not been as adventurous. Besides exploring border towns, and taking a Mexican Riviera cruise (2006), the Haerr family has not returned to Mexico. Who knows, maybe one day!

Your parents were adventurous! Like my uncle’s family, who drove to Mexico City from Indiana in their station wagon for a Lions Club International meeting in 1952! He still carries around a money clip obtained on that trip. And their family hosted their Mexican tour guide in Indiana on several occasions!
