Our Palm Springs Day in 3 Parts...

This was our first trip back to Palm Springs since I fractured my neck there over a year ago. Today was a reintroduction to a town I love and a chance to hang out with my college girlfriend, Julie. It was an awesome day. So awesome in fact that I'm blogging it in three parts. Part 1: Shopping.

I have been waiting a long time to wear this mid-century modernesque outfit (only in Palm Springs).

š¯… Ooh, man, dig that crazy chick.
Who wears short shorts
We wear short shorts
They're such short shorts
We like short shorts
Who wears short shorts
We wear short shorts.š¯…

I have been anticipating meeting Julie at the Palm Springs Vintage Market for years. Taking place the first Sunday of the month, October through May, the market has become a haven for lovers of all things retro and vintage. Locals and visitors alike look forward to this monthly event. It was a first for me. I'll be back.

We have a lot in common with the event organizers who have "always had a soft spot for garage sales and thrift stores, and so wanted to bring that enjoyment to this larger scale event. A real community feel pervades the market and the vendors and shoppers have become real friends and family. The dealers are all friendly and knowledgeable, and the quality of goods is high as they work hard to maintain these standards."
Some treasures require no comment.

Even Steve enjoyed the uniqueness of it all.

Julie and I both bought treasures at the Market but decided to get a couple thrift stores a spin as well. Angel View has the added advantage of being located in a true mid-century modern building, circa 1955.
Revivals was just too crowded with bargain hunters for us to feel safe so it is on our list for "next time".
So my treasures were quite unique. How about this 1974 Challenge Yahtzee, endorsed by The Odd Couple? "A fast paced poker dice Yahtzee variant. All players build their point scores from common rolls of the dice, but use their own judgment for possible combinations and scoring. It's a natural for game players who love to win by out-thinking their opponents." Oh man, that is so us! While it's missing some of its dice, it was a steal at $2.99.
I probably won't make that groovy jumpsuit, but who knows. These 1968 patterns were purchased mainly because I love the images. They were $1 each. Groovy right?
Lastly, this $1 find, from 1963, was probably something I owned in my childhood. We laughed out loud at "G for Gun". Oh man things have certainly changed over the last five decades. WOW. What a great way to start a Sunday.
