Owling with Jenny...

For days Jenny has been encouraging us to join her to ogle Owl babies. The timing just never seemed right, until today.

These are just a couple of images that Jenny teased us with. Isn't this the most adorable owlet ever?
And while we searched in earnest, no owl was to be found, sadly.
I wasn't too disappointed as the variety of birds we did see was fabulous!

The Angora burn area is one of those harsh beauties which really is like a phoenix rising from the ashes. This was a spectacular place to sit, absorb and appreciate.

It wasn't just birds that delighted.

As we strolled back, disappointed about missing the owls, I shared with Steve my love of the colorful Western Tanager, whose hues seem so out of place in the Sierras. They should be on an island somewhere. Steve had never seen one... until he did!
Steve found this couple near where we parked. We couldn't believe our good fortune. If we couldn't see an owl, it was a great consolation prize to spot a spectacular tanager. The day was deemed a success!

That baby owlet is ADORABLE!!
The other birds are amazing too. It is unfortunate they are like bridesmaids in ugly dresses compared to the beautiful bride, the owlet. Ha.
