Vegas Day 1: Paris, Art & Zombies

We have arrived in Sin City for a two night explore. Vegas is one of those towns we seem to need to return to every so often.

Since our hotel room wasn't going to be ready for hours, we hit The Strip for a very hot stroll. We delightfully discovered this work by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Brugge, 60's pop artists known for making giant scale interpretations of otherwise mundane, everyday objects. This work, titled "Scale X" is a 19 ft. 4-in. tall version of a vintage circular typewriter eraser (a flashback for some and a 'what is that?' to many). What a cool find. Side note: We were introduced to Claes' work in Salinas with his Hat in Three Stages of Landing.
What I appreciate about Las Vegas is its ability to put its own spin on everything!
A quick stroll through the Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Garden had us reminiscing about La Dolce Vita. A horticulture staff of 120 maintains the Botanical Gardens and the entire grounds of Bellagio. The staff has the ability to achieve seasonal designs by selecting flowers that complement the trees, gazebos, bridges and ponds, and can add or remove water features to enhance the seasonal effect. Inside, we were amazed by the this recreation of Siena's famous horse event- The Palio. Wow.
Bellagio also provides a wonderful view of our Vegas home- Paris.

Dinner was in the Über cool Miracle Mile Shopping extraganza!
Prior to leaving for Vegas, I had purchased us each a Go Card for three activities in town. This was a fabulous deal for all our plans.

What called to us our first night was Zombie Burlesque, which according to their website, "takes you back to the year 1958 in a world where the undead have taken over! Our story takes place shortly after the President of The United States struck a deal with the invading Zombie hordes to allow the living and the dead to coexist...
...In exchange for peace, civilization promised to give the undead their worst prisoners, and so far the deal has held up better than they had expected. In an act of good faith, the zombies have opened up the doors to the most debaucherous club in the world of the undead. That's right! Club Z is now open to the living, and we promise no harm to anyone."
The show was very Vegas and we agreed that the cast was incredibly talented and the performance was just perfect for our first foray out on the town.

Some things are just so very, very Vegas!
🎵Oh, how I wish that there were more
Than the twenty-four hours in the day
'Cause even if there were forty more
I wouldn't sleep a minute away
Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas🎵
