Rediscovering Woodfords: Walk The Old & Discover The New!

My friend, author Karen Dustman, has put together a really awesome day of history in the neighboring town of Woodfords. While I won't be able to attend, sadly, I want to get the word out.

When: Saturday June 9, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Where: Meet up at Mad Dog Cafe (formerly Woodfords Station), 290 A Old Pony Express Road Markleeville, California 96120
What: Join local guides wearing period dress for a short stroll through the historic town of Woodfords. Visit the site where the old Merrill Hotel and Daniel Woodford’s “Sign of the Elephant” once stood, and hear true tales about the Emigrant Trail wagons and Pony Express riders that once passed through town.

This free walking tour will feature historic old-time photos of this quaint town, and a modern-day photographer will share tips for capturing historic sites and quirky buildings. A beautifully restored Model-T will also be here to help us celebrate Woodfords’ amazing history, so bring your camera! Back at the Cafe porch, a trio of local authors will be signing their great local history books and hosting a free book raffle. Then join the hungry crowd at newly-opened Mad Dog Cafe for free hors-d’oeuvres, their great signature coffee, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating their exciting new business.

origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
