Eagles & Baby Cows on the Road-less-traveled

Karen and I spent the day in Carson (more about that later). To get there we took the back road.

Okay, I'm starting this post with the money shot of a bald eagle. This is from my bird expert, Jenny, "The bald eagle looks to be in his third year (by his markings).  Nice."
Every year, an event happens that makes all bird enthusiasts giddy- Eagles & Agriculture. This is Carson Valley's annual gathering of eagles and a celebration of agriculture. It is an event highlighting the seasonal arrival of bald and golden eagles (and other raptors) in our valley and the role that the ranching community plays in providing habitat for wildlife.

So how does ranching help wildlife? Bald eagles show up each year in this valley during calving season. They come not for the majestic views, but for the nutritious afterbirth.  Yes, this event is a bit disturbing but it is a natural part of ranch life. There were tons of new baby cows, several hawks but only one fabulous eagle. We were definitely giddy about it.

This just proves how dedicated we were... 16℉. Brisk but beautiful.
