Unforgettable Memories in Old Sac...

After being in "town" we headed to Old Sacramento, where the City actually began.

We have stayed in Old Sac only once before. We are hooked on our accommodations- The Delta King.
The Delta King is an authentic 285-foot riverboat that was originally built in various stages in Glasgow, Scotland and Stockton, California. The King and its identical twin, the Delta Queen, were christened on May 20, 1927, and began their daily river voyages between San Francisco and Sacramento in June of that year.  At 6:00 p.m. each evening, the grand monarchs of the Delta left their docks for the 10 ½ hour trip that included prohibition era drinking, jazz bands, gambling and fine dining.
It no longer moves, but provides an idyllic spot to call it a night. To stay in such history, in such an ideal location, is a pretty special opportunity. We highly recommend it to anyone- especially if there's a special event in town.

Once we parked our car and moved in, we were transported to another time.

What brought us to town was the Theatre of Lights. Last year, Lee and Margaret went to this live-action retelling of Clement Moore’s 1823 poem Twas the Night Before Christmas. We were intrigued.
In addition, throughout the show, we were given history lessons, too. We discovered how early pioneers experienced the calamities — and revelry — that befell the new city in the 1850s, the sounds of the fires, floods and parties surrounded us as the 150-year-old building facades lit up with color. Very, very cool.

The streets were teeming with characters.
After the show, we strolled the old streets and found ourselves at the train depot, watching the excitement surrounding the departure of the Polar Express.

The evening ended back on the King rocking to fabulous music provided by One Eyed Reilly (we're now fans). Oh man, what a fantastic escape to Sacramento with some super fun people! I 💗Sacramento!
