A Winters, CA morning...

Described by Sunset Magazine as, "Neighborhoods of restored Victorians, pocket parks, a thriving downtown bursting with local art and independent restaurants make the small town of Winters a refreshing detour ..."  we knew we would want to stop in this quaint village for an explore.

Winters was founded in 1875, claiming a special place in California's history as the Sacramento Valley's commercial center for agriculture and passenger rail service. Over the years, Winters has retained its original historic and rural charm, and our walk down the National Historic Main Street was a walk through history, with many architectural treasures now occupied by restaurants, shops and businesses.  I think my favorite is the Seaman's Opera House, a two-story red brick commercial building of vernacular Italianate design has a stepped parapet front facade. The original cornice was removed, probably as a result of the 1892 earthquake. The facade was covered with stucco in 1931, but in 1970, the natural brick was restored.

After breakfast at a sidewalk cafĂ© we strolled to the Old Trestle Bridge a 1906 landmark for which this town is very proud.  Winters is a delightful place to spend an Autumn day.
