AAUW's Talking on Paper...

Once a month, a group of interesting and very well written ladies meet at someone's home. A light brunch is served,  with the hostess selecting a 5 minute writing challenge on the 'theme of the day', followed by each member reading a work written in the days leading up to the meeting.  Each woman brings something unique to the gathering.

Today's hostess, Linda, chose the prompt "describe one of your meltdowns".  The key here is the time limit- five minutes.  Yikes.  Here is what I wrote:

This is probably one of my most difficult topics to write about:  Meltdowns.  There was a time when I was certain to have had one.  I had both parents die, within a year of one another, of prolonged diseases.  Surely a meltdown occurred then, but, like an old movie that seems vaguely familiar, that time, that life is but a distant memory.

Raising two boys had to be the catalyst of a meltdown or dozens.  But my fine sons have moved into adulthood with ease and with actions I am proud of, thankfully not causing a meltdown.

After 25 years of marriage, surely a meltdown occurred as well but the past is just that- past and we've grown into a comfortable life of even emotions and great friendship.  I'm meltdown free...but wine and chocolate are great for a happy life too (the contents of Linda's 'meltdown kit').

Good writing is like a windowpane.

Well, I suppose if you admit you HAVE a melting point you don't have to actually experience it. :)
