Everything from Sparks to Fireworks!

What a day!  We left early this morning for a road trip to Nevada... the land of awesome Outdoorsman-type stores, hot temperatures and yummy food.

Locals here have told us about Scheels All Sports Store so we headed to Sparks, NV to see what the whole thing was about.  Wow!  We were not disappointed.  Interestingly, three acres of potatoes were the seed for the first Scheels store in 1902. Frederick A. Scheel, a German immigrant, used the $300 he earned from that first harvest of potatoes as the down payment on the first Scheels, a small hardware and general merchandise store in Sabin, Minnesota.  This store is no small potatoes (pardon the pun).
The boys wanted to pet guns and fishing equipment.  Christy sought out hiking boots and Steve ogled bikes.  I was interested in the 65-foot, 16-car operating Ferris Wheel.  It was the best way to see the whole store!
After wandering for hours in Scheels, we needed grub.  My big brother turned Steve on to the Famous Nugget, a casino/diner from the 1950s era.
We came for the world famous Awful, Awful. The name totally does not stand for its taste but for Awful big and awful good.
No one would share, so I ate most of this two-fisted burger!  Look at the basket of fries.  Delicious, great service and all for $7.
After a stop at Cabela's, World's Foremost Outfitters for more of what we did at Scheels, we headed back to the Lake for the exceptional Fireworks Show.
Synchronized to music that praised weekends and relaxing, this extravaganza was truly unique.  I, for one, have never heard of Fireworks for Labor Day.  What a blast!
What a way to end the day... walking through the pines in the dark...tired yet totally content with my family all around.  It was a great, great day.
