Al Tahoe and some local history...

After a delicious Italian meal at Passaretti's with our friends, Dick and Joan, we headed to historic Camp Richardson to listen intently to local historian Dave Borges discuss the site of the first pioneer settlement on the Lake Tahoe shoreline, Al Tahoe.

This informative lecture, presented by the Lake Tahoe Historical Society, focused on the history of this South Lake Tahoe neighborhood, and the people who made it come to be.

The Al Tahoe neighborhood has a historical past dating back to when the Washoe Indians made this area their home.   The current community is named for Almerin Sprague, who built the Al Tahoe Inn in 1907, naming it after himself. When a post office was established in 1908, he became the area's first postmaster.  It is an explorable area full of diverse types of homes:  log cabins, historic chalets, cottages and large, lakeside estates.

Dr. Borges' informative presentation was filled with old photos and accentuated by the "locals" in the audience, some of whom have lived in Tahoe for over 50 years.  It was a fantastic evening of learning and sharing.  The history continues to have us intrigued.

The history of the world is but the biography of great men.

Very cool. It seems as though there is always something going on in Tahoe!
Now, why did you move there again?
