Walking the "forgotten railways"...

There are certain events that happen here that no matter how hard I try, I can never truly capture the magic of the day.  Today is one of them.  Wow.

At 8:30 AM we boarded a bus for the drive to Serravalle, one of the stops on the ex-Ferrovia Spoleto-Norcia.  Today was a special day for La Giornata Nazionale Delle Ferrovie Dimenticate because this path was just restored and we were the first to officially "remember" this section of the railway.  What an event.

We meandered, with friends, through 9 km of the most scenic areas of the Valnerina:  pastures, farms, rivers and the Parco Nazionale dei Sibillini.  We had a lunch of panini, prosecco and caffè in the foreground of a majestic, snow-capped mountain.  We learned about the history of the trains and also the herbs found along the path.  We were even given rapunzuli , harvested by a woman walking on the trail with us, with very special instructions on how to eat it tonight.

It was a day of history making and unforgettable memories...
