Québec Date Night: Dinner & Music
We spent most of the day indoors delighting in the constant rain from the comfort of our cozy apartment. That is until Date Night began.
Dinner was at Polina Pizzeria in the historic Maison Bouchette (c. 1825). Lieutenant-Colonel Joseph Bouchette was the Surveyor General of Lower Canada (1804-41), an author, and a map maker.I chose the deliziosa La Trapanese, a pizza adorned with Polina tomato sauce, artichokes, spinach, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, lemon zest, bocconcini, and mozzarella. Yum.
Steve had the lasagna and an espresso. If it wasn't for the fact that the restaurant was packed with English speakers, we could have believed, at least for one meal, that we were back in Italy. Fun.
The catalyst for getting us out on a rainy night was the Morrin Centre's Arts Alive! Québec Festival, back for its ninth year! "The whole family can join the celebration with concerts, challenges, contests, performances, and more. All activities are free and require no registration. Saturday visitors may even get a tasty surprise!"
Any reason to return to this bastion of awesomeness works for us.
That said, WOW! Incredible music was provided by Olivier Côté-Méthot, and his band Metò. Oliver is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who plays sensitive folk-pop that goes from English to French. "Come experience Metò’s contagious musical enthusiasm." Oh boy did we!
While the band played their lyrical music, artist Patricia Roby painted an image of a woman inspired by the band's various record covers. I can't explain how totally cool this component of the night was. We had never seen anything like it before and we were wowed.
Here is a brief video of what Arts Alive! Québec offered us. We are total fans and will be back for Day 2 tomorrow.
This is the video I watched before the concert which made me a fan. There is just such joy in their music.
