Chase Luxury Estates Tour
We absolutely love Chase International's Annual Luxury Estates Tour. For the 27th year, the doors were opened to some of the most prestigious homes around Lake Tahoe. And we stepped right in to three of them (of 19 we could have visited).
With time constraints and my limited mobility, we chose to stay rather close to home.A French Chalet was found at Glenbrook Grandeur (190 Yellow Jacket, Glenbrook, NV, $6,950,000). This home was magnificent with everything one would want, from being in a gated community to a pool house complete with a kitchen, two guestrooms, and space for entertaining. Wow.
With 6 bedrooms and 8 baths in 8,464 sq ft, there was room for a lot of guests! What fun.
One of the must sees was the lakeside home built by baseball legend, Ty Cobb. Purchased during the dark days of the Great Depression in 1933, it was five years after Cobb retired from baseball.
I read that Cobb struggled in relationships with his children and he lost two sons in back-to-back years. This caused him to embrace his grandchildren. He forged those connections largely at Lake Tahoe. His cabin was a refuge—a place where he slept well and connected with the natural world. Leslie McLaren, Ty Cobb’s granddaughter, said of this sweet Sierra spot, “Grandfather came home to himself in Tahoe. He was not a well man by the time I really remember him (McLaren was 12 when he died), but he could be at peace up there.”
This beautifully remodeled cabin is nestled on .87 acres of Lake Tahoe's shore (1472 Flowers Ave, Glenbrook, NV) and in its 3,597 sq ft are 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. The sale is currently pending at $9,950,000. What a treasure!
Of the three estates toured, I feel Clearwater Lodge in Incline Village, NV was the deal! For $7,250,000 you get a gorgeous 5 bedroom, 7 bath home in 7,251 sq ft. In addition, it is completely furnished. All you would have to do is bring your clothes. And it is furnished exquisitely.
Interestingly, back in the 80s, this was the home of Doug Clifford, the drummer for Creedence Clearwater Revival. The lodge gets its name, Clearwater from that connection. “I had a great studio upstairs in my house,” Clifford said. “I’d sit up there for hours and write all the time. It was great. It had huge windows all the way around with an amazing view of Lake Tahoe: a magic window!" In 2020, he found a tape reel that reminded him that he had a bunch of tapes stashed away which he had recorded in this house. Clifford says he has well over 100 songs on the tape, and after 35 years in storage, Magic Window is the first batch he’s releasing. So not only is this home exceptional, it's inspirational, too.
If only I had an extra $7 million lying about! This home is a dream.
Le Corbusier said, "The home should be the treasure chest of living." After touring these three amazing homes, I see the true treasures each possesses. What a wonderful day exploring with our treasured friends.
