Our Life On The Houseboat...

Lake Powell is as diverse as it is large. Below are images from our wonderful houseboating adventure with our dear friends. This is one big post covering our duration aboard. I'm sharing with you my favorite images/events. Enjoy!

Interestingly, it was 150 years ago, this month, that a one-armed Civil War veteran (John Wesley Powell) set off with nine mountain men on a scientific expedition to map one of the last blank spaces left on the U.S. map: The Green and Colorado Rivers through what would become known as the Grand Canyon.
Bob and Jenny brought kayaks for all of us, and it was our job to shop for all the groceries for the group. We had a lot of 'stuff' to get to the boat.

But once aboard, it felt like home for the nine of us.

Cruising through vast canyons was how we began our adventure.

On our second night, high winds came and we needed to beach it for the night. When this group of guys saw that we needed help, they came to our rescue. What a truly generous, giving, and frankly, awesome group of heroes. They helped to secure our boat and were just wonderful and caring neighbors.
And what a place to camp!

Due to Cyndy's planning, we dined extremely well.
Our cruising crew (from L to R): Cyndy, Mary, jenny, Me, Mark, Len, Raul and Bob. Steve was the photographer.
The moon gifted us with an exceptional show.

Mornings were magical.

Kayaking got us off the boat and onto the Lake.

The weather can be temperamental. We endured the most intense hail storm anyone had ever seem.
The water appeared to be boiling for at least 20 minutes, if not longer. What a show!

What was once an arid landscape became a snowy winter scene.
Waterfalls appeared and delighted us all. Our days aboard the ship were filled with interesting scenery, great food, and memory making. What fun!
“Living on the water took away the boundaries
created by land and custom and introversion.
Without fences and driveways,
the water provided a constant thread
of connection and dependency.”
