Our Drive Through Zion National Park...
Ten years ago, we did an extensive explore of Zion. This trip, we were just passing through on our way to Bryce Canyon.
This is Utah's First National Park and probably its most popular.
"Follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers walked. Gaze up at massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky. Experience wilderness in a narrow slot canyon. Zion’s unique array of plants and animals will enchant you as you absorb the rich history of the past and enjoy the excitement of present day adventures."
For a $15 large vehicle permit, in addition to the $40 park entrance fee (we didn't have to pay since we have a Parks Pass), we got to go through the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. Construction of the 1.1 mile Tunnel began in the late 1920s and was completed in 1930. At the time it was dedicated, it was the longest tunnel of its type in the United States. The purpose of the building the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel (and the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway) was to create direct access to Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon from Zion National Park.
We had another great opportunity to view Big Horn Sheep. So very cool.
All through the little towns, around Zion, are restaurants serving Buffalo Burgers. I told Steve if we see buffalo, we have to stop. SCORE!
Even though briefly savored, the sights of Utah are exciting and spectacular with more to come.
