Our Northern Lights Attempt

Jenny is an Aurora Borealis chaser. Today, she sent us a map, giddily encouraging us to get to the Lake and look for this astronomical phenomenon knowing we've missed every other opportunity to witness them in South Lake Tahoe.

If you hadn't heard, the news headlines announced, "Sun releases the largest solar radiation storm ‘in over 20 years.' Powerful solar activity released by the sun is heading for Earth and it’s likely to create dazzling auroral displays in unexpected areas Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. It could also disrupt satellite-based communications and GPS accuracy. A solar radiation storm, ranked at a level four out of five on a severity scale, is being tracked by the National Weather Service’s Space Weather Prediction Center, or SWPC."
"For aurora chasers, your best bet is to find somewhere with a clear and dark view north, without interference from light pollution. Aurora will likely be strongest as soon as it is dark enough to see them at your location. Even if the colorful displays don’t seem apparent to the naked eye, sensors in cameras including cell phone cameras can pick them up."
I don't know if it was technological errors or a human patience deficiency, but Steve and I were unable to glimpse this phenomenon.
Thankfully, Jenny documented the event and shared it with us so we felt like we were there, sort of.
Bob shared this moving documentation. Wild.
At 4:19 AM I received this stunning image from Jenny.
At 5:23 AM this photo arrived with the message, "At Cove East now, fading."
This last self-portrait of Jenny pretty much encapsulates just who she is. I can totally hear her saying, "Oh yay! I didn't miss the show. I'm here!" I love that about her.
