New Bookstore and a Pop-Up Experience
When I read the following description, I knew we had to head to Genoa. "New business: Moss & Midnight, Genoa’s immersive, moody bookshop." Besides, Genoa is a little storybook town so how fitting it would be the home of a new, unique independent bookstore.
"Moss & Midnight isn’t your run-of-the-mill bookshop, and it’s not meant to be; its literary selections and moody atmosphere are intentionally chosen to create an immersive experience for readers who love the darker things in life."
"Unlike big-box retailers, Moss & Midnight does not aim to carry every title. Instead, the inventory is heavily compiled, focusing on ‘darker’ genres that fit within the shop’s aesthetic such as fantasy, romantasy, mysteries, horror, and thrillers — though there is a specially selected section for children as well.""The shop’s interior is described as a “dark academia” aesthetic—a subculture that romanticizes reading, writing, and the arts, often with a moody, gothic tone."
I had to laugh a little as MOODY was the main adjective used to describe this bookshop. For me, I found it quaint and welcoming. Anyway, while I am not the moody type of reader, the selection was such that it was not difficult for me to find a book to purchase. I enjoyed the experience immensely and delighted in chatting with one of the owners, Khaslynne. I plan to return for a longer stay, with book loving girlfriends one day soon.
Conveniently, right next door was Flutter and Buzz Café, an incredibly adorable coffee shop and restaurant. We only had drinks but the menu was such that we will definitely return.
According to its 'About' page, "Eddy Street Vintage Market started on a whim! Meant to be open for one weekend.. ever...one and done. What happened was nothing short of miraculous. A snowball in the middle of summer. What transpired was an amazing event once per month that combines family, friends and a love of antiques, vintage, home decor, and repurposed goods."
Housed in a beautiful Arts and Crafts-styled home, built in 1916, we noticed, and admired, wonderful details and special craftsmanship of a bygone era. Owned by the Fischers since 1980, multiple generations were on hand to create new memories along with the 45 years of family memories made within. It is a special place and I plan to explore further on subsequent shopping excursions.
Open every third weekend, each Pop-Up offers a different theme. I'm eager to see the monthly transformations that are created.
Supporting small business. Exploring new places. Coffee. Books. Cute stuff. What an idyllic day.
