Our Northern Lights Attempt
Jenny is an Aurora Borealis chaser. Today, she sent us a map, giddily encouraging us to get to the Lake and look for this astronomical phenomenon knowing we've missed every other opportunity to witness them in South Lake Tahoe. If you hadn't heard, the news headlines announced, "Sun releases the largest solar radiation storm ‘in over 20 years.' Powerful solar activity released by the sun is heading for Earth and it’s likely to create dazzling auroral displays in unexpected areas Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. It could also disrupt satellite-based communications and GPS accuracy. A solar radiation storm, ranked at a level four out of five on a severity scale, is being tracked by the National Weather Service’s Space Weather Prediction Center, or SWPC."
I don't know if it was technological errors or a human patience deficiency, but Steve and I were unable to glimpse this phenomenon.
Thankfully, Jenny documented the event and shared it with us so we felt like we were there, sort of.
