‘A Little Country Time’ Musical

I like to find 'new to us' activities in places we have yet been. Carson Valley Community Theater's A Little Country Time Musical, in Minden's CVIC Hall, was the perfect way to kick off the month of November.

A little about the amazing location... The Carson Valley Improvement Club (CVIC) Hall, built in 1912, served as the center of community life and government functions for the unincorporated town. Originally funded by public subscription on land donated by the Dangberg family, it hosted social gatherings, town meetings, and later housed the governing bodies of Minden until the present day. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is still used for community events, meetings, and private functions. Oh how I love to be in history for just about anything.
According to the advertisement for this production, "Putting together a program of country music is a daunting task. There is so much wonderful music out there and there are so many sub-genres of country, from folk and bluegrass to gospel, country rock and country pop. There is a common perception that country music is mostly cheatin’ songs and drinking songs, but there is so much more."
"For this show, we will be performing an eclectic mix of country music. The selection includes music that dates back nearly 100 years and songs written less than ten years ago.  There are songs that everyone in the audience will find familiar and songs that many in our audience have never heard before. Our selection of songs includes some thought provoking works as well as songs with a strong positive message. Oh, and some heartbreak songs. We promise something for everyone. So be ready to tap your toes or wipe a tear from your eye!"
This Cabaret included everything from Amazed to You're the Reason Our Kids are Ugly. What a fun musical escape.
I was mesmerized by Cori Rosa's rendition of If I Had a Boat, a song I had never heard before. "And if I had a boat I'd go out on the ocean. And if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat. And we could all together go out on the ocean. I said, me upon my pony on my boat." Funny premise but so very, very sweet when performed by Cori. Wow.

We had no idea how true the statement, ..."wipe a tear from your eye!" would be. Steve and I had massive tears leaping from our eyes when Ann Delahay sang Love, Me by Collin Raye. Oh my gosh. Then if that wasn't enough tear duct flushing, her version of Trisha Yearwood's The Song Remembers When turned on the waterworks again.

We thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon of true community. We'll be back!
