My Carlsbad Friday...

With an early morning departure, I spent the day in numerous, delightful, and diverse ways.

My first destination was the Carlsbad Sculpture Garden’s exhibition Fusion: Geometric Garden.
"Escape to an outdoor gallery that is sure to inspire. Fusion: Geometric Garden, showcases works of art by artists John Dupree, Elon Ebanks, Jeffery Laudenslager, Christopher Lee, Vicki Leon, Nico Meyer and Peter Mitten. The city is proud to highlight such an array of impressive artwork by local, regional and national artists in an exhibition space that provides a natural setting for the artwork to take center stage and allow visitors to unwind in this outdoor gallery oasis. Each of the sculptures are unique on their own, however collectively the exhibit demands attention and focus to angular lines and shapes, and connectedness through geometric forms."

This free exhibit will be on display until August, 2024. If you're nearby, it's worth a visit.
I was meeting Karen for a 12:30 lunch but arrived early. I had a delicious hour-long coffee break while reading a fantastical tale- Empty Mansions.
After lunch, I returned to the William D. Cannon Art Gallery for Dual Visions. Karen was interested in seeing the abstracted works of art created by artists, Sijia Chen and Kelsey Overstreet. I enjoyed seeing them again with her enthusiasm.

The pièce de résistance was the book launch of The Leftover Woman by NYT bestselling author Jean Kwok. What fun!
The book has been described by Ruth Ware, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The It Girl, as “A heart-tugging exploration of love, belonging and the meaning of family.” To be as fully impressed as I was, read her bio here. What a story!
For a mesmerizing hour, we learned some of this enchanting woman's life story. It is one of an immigrant who arrived here with no English, worked in a sweatshop as a child, became a professional ballroom dancer, graduated from both Harvard and Columbia, and is now the award-winning (successful) author of four books. Jean was not only entertaining... she was inspiring. In her company was the ideal way to end my crazy week.

"I have not been so much pushed by winds
as pulled forward by the force of my decisions."
-Jean Kwok
