Two Very Different Days' End...
Our last two days concluded at two very different locations, giving us the opportunity to experience an even more unique Québec.
After our Sunday afternoon tea, we headed to Mont du Gas.It's difficult to tell in these photos but there were dozens of other Quebecers with the same idea. Because the town faces east, there really isn't an ideal sunset spot but this one came pretty close.
As for the name of this above it all location... On a 1613 map of Québec, founder Samuel de Champlain gave this promontory, an integral part of Cap Diamant, the name of Mont du Gas, in homage to Pierre Dugua de Mons, vice-admiral and lieutenant general of Henri IV for the Acadia and New France (1603-1612). The Sieur de Mons named Champlain his lieutenant and provided him with the manpower, the ships and all the other material and financial means necessary for the founding of Québec in 1608. Pretty cool history... everywhere.
On Labor Day, after the cruise ships departed, we headed back to the Port and to the water-filled sweet spot, La Cale. It was the perfect place to be after exploring all day in 80°+ temps.
This festive and refreshing oasis, located on the river's edge, just opened in June. It's timing was perfect for us. What an über cool hangout with what seemed like just locals. It really is the little things that are filling our days. I love it."My quality of life here in Québec City
is extraordinary."
