Temecula's Rod Run 2023

If you've followed along at all, you know we're a family of classic car enthusiasts (even our grandchildren are hooked). The Daddy of them all, for me, is our local annual Rod Run!

I loved this especially since we were just at Balboa Island. "This all original and unrestored 1955 Jeep CJ is history on wheels. The original owner, Horace Parker grew up in the Temecula Valley and his father worked for the rail station in town. After high school he went into the Veterinary profession, eventually opening a practice on Balboa Island. His off duty passion was exploring the California desert, which lead to a side project of writing a weekly column in the local newspaper about his adventures, and eventually starting his own publishing company called Paisano Press. His guidebook for the Anza Borrego Desert was a big seller and other publications followed. Little Joe the Jeep was his trusty steed on these adventures and features prominently in the book and period images.

In 1960, Horace and his wife Leverne returned to the valley and purchased the Hotel Temecula from heirs of its founders and moved in as a primary residence. He and Leverne worked endlessly to restore the hotel to its former glory and their work is obvious in the hotel today. Horace passed in 1977 and the Jeep remained in use by his family until being parked in a shed behind the hotel in 1985 where it sat until April 2023." What a great find for us!

My favorite was this sweet little Nash called Buttercup.
"The Nash Metropolitan is a car that was sold, initially, only in the United States and Canada, from 1954–62. It conforms to two classes of vehicle: economy car and subcompact car. In today’s terminology the Metropolitan is a subcompact, but this category had not yet come into use when the car was made."

We even found a bit of humor. This truck warns, "Caution: Do not touch without a tetanus shot!"

We didn't have to go far to find our bliss today!

The Temecula Rod Run is one of the longest running car shows on the West Coast. And I grew up in Temecula and have only been a few times. I should make it a point to go. It is fun to chat with people who are in their element.
