Beehive- The 60's Musical...

The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival always presents a non-Bard musical for us who are not fans of The Bard himself. Tonight's Beehive was a super groovy choice. With this description, how could it not be... "An exuberant jukebox celebration of the women musicians who made the 60s truly memorable, Beehive transports audiences on a nostalgic musical journey back in time. Featuring forty classic chart-toppers (and Aqua Net-glistening coiffures, of course), this groovy retro-revue highlights hits that range from the Supremes’ memorable melodies to Janis Joplin’s heart-rending rasp to Aretha Franklin’s soul and more. So break out your vintage best…and prepare to sing along, dance in the aisles and relive one of music’s truly golden eras."

Jan and Chris were our dates for the evening's shindig. Jan is always game when it comes to dressing up for an event. Since our seats were general admission, we arrived early and were rewarded for being the first in line.

Jackson, a super sweet staff member, asked us to pose for some images for their instagram. We were honored and had way more fun than most probably would. We crack each other up.
After our professional photo shoot, we left the men in line to hold our place and we then wandered about, taking our own photos. So dang funny.
One couple asked to be photographed with us and said, "Oh we're going to say you are part of the musical!"

No photography was allowed during the performance, so these images will have to give you a glimpse of how it looked during the show.

After securing our seats, we picnicked along the lakeshore. It was magical.
"And how was Beehive?" you might ask. Oh my goodness, it was so much more than just amazing songs performed by incredible talent. This show was a history lesson about the evolution of women. It took us from the early 60s, where teen girls pined for boys to notice them, to later in the decade when the song "You don't own me" reflected a paradigm shift in women's self-worth. It covered so many of the pivotal events that really defined the sixties and it did it exceptionally in song and fabulous costuming.
Thank you Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival for giving us an unforgettable evening and a reason to rock a Beehive. Groovy indeed.
