Hikes, Geology & Horses...

There is always something to do in Death Valley.

After our first colorful sunrise, we ventured out for a Ranger led hike in Golden Canyon.

Funny, we were guided by Alex when we were here in February, too (at Harmony Borax Works).
Alex shared a photo of this canyon when it was paved to allow people to drive in it. Note Steve is on a piece of asphalt that wasn't washed away in one of the many floods that turned this place into a hiking canyon.
This walk was a geology lesson which made us look at the landscape completely differently.
After the talk was over, Steve and I headed to Gower Gulch for an explore of the canyon with only us in it. How peaceful and beautiful.

We learned from Alex that Steve is laying on a fossilized lake shore (the ripples were caused my long ago waves).

We are loving Death Valley. I even wrote a poem.
We came to the desert to find some heat;
Never realizing it's so incredibly neat.
Hikes into canyons scenic and immense;
Vistas of vastness with temps intense.
Magic exists everywhere- all around;
A truly special place in Death Valley we have found!

Lastly, at camp we watched the Belgian Draft Horses get harnessed up for a trial run of tomorrow's wagon ride. There truly is something for everyone here in Death Valley.
