The Basilica di San Salvatore...

The cemetery is next to the Basilica di San Salvatore, one of the oldest and most remarkable churches in Italy and well worth seeking out. Dating from the late 4th century, it was built in the style of a Classical pagan temple. Despite some later alternations, its original architecture remains remarkably well-preserved today.  It was pretty impressive to wander, in amazement, through this ancient church showing evidence of its previous grandeur.

This is such an important 'treasure' it is up for a UNESCO designation.  The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.
